The release show for the new album "...and I'm glad it's finally over" and the last hurrah (for now) from Ottawa's own explosive alternative rock act Valvehead, the longtime solo project of Cape-Breton-turned-Ottawa musician Cyrus R.O. (of Finely Tuned Elephant, girlboything, Victor Complex). The night will feature a live performance of the new album cover to cover. Featuring very special guests girlboything and Four Eyed Muscle Man.
Frequently poppy and unabashedly progressive, "...and I'm glad it's finally over" is as subtle as it is...well, unsubtle. Predominantly influenced by alternative rock acts like Foxing, Asian Kung Fu Generation, Queens of the Stone Age, et cetera, the record is built on a foundation of simple, catchy hooks over a wall of skullcrushingly loud guitars. Between and beneath the bouts of anthemic noise, it channels psychedelic elements reminiscent of bands like Crumb, notes of The Cure's proto-dreampop, and just enough of a taste for rich, extended chord progressions to let you know the writer moonlights as a fusion musician.
girlboything Queer doom indie to get you feeling sad and cathartic. Spacey, hypnotic, and extremely dynamic.
Four Eyed Muscle Man Alt rock with a bluesy edge. Tight, soulful, irresistibly groovy, and hard-hitting.
