Rachael Kilgour writes (and sings) in hopes of finding a truth she can live with. Her heartfelt release, My Father Loved Me, was written in memory of her late Canadian father and recorded with the help of some of the country's finest talent, including producer Rose Cousins. In the spare and often gutting language for which she is known, Kilgour poses questions about belonging, inheritance, and grief while triumphantly affirming the value of one ordinary working man’s life. Her live performances radiate sincerity, warmth, and humour, drawing audiences into stories that feel both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Kilgour was awarded a McKnight Music Fellowship in 2025 and was an official showcasing artist at the Folk Alliance International Conference. She is also the winner of the Kerrville New Folk Contest and the NewSong Music Competition. Her oft-noted “unapologetic lyrics” (Rolling Stone) and “master crafted indie folk” sensibilities (Billboard) are on full display in her latest collection of delicately woven songs.
Over the years, Kilgour has shared stages with acclaimed artists including Rose Cousins, Catherine MacLellan, Dave Gunning, and The Pairs, earning a reputation as a captivating performer whose songs invite listeners to laugh, reflect, and connect. Thoughtful, fearless, and deeply human, Rachael Kilgour's music lingers long after the final note fades.
