Watch the sun set while C Joynes, Mike Gangloff, and Wychwood play beautiful music!
Tunnelfest returns in 2025 as Riverfest! The latest round of this make-your-own-venue extravaganza will feature transatlantic duo C Joynes and Mike Gangloff, as well as hometown heroes Wychwood.
Guitarist C JOYNES (Cambridge, UK) and fiddler MIKE GANGLOFF (Southwest Virginia, USA) are celebrating the release of their new album "Tom Winter, Tom Spring" with their debut tour of Canada. On the album and live, they combine jaunty frolics (original and traditional), improvisation, and experimental drones and tape noise. Veterans of many solo projects, bands, and collaborations, their long musical histories have centered and converged on a never-ending search for the otherness that glimmers alike in folk traditions and the avant garde. cjoynes.bandcamp.com/album/tom-winter-tom-spring
WYCHWOOD might just be the world’s first “blackgrass” band. They play old murder-ballads and other spooky traditional folk songs, with some bright and sentimental spots thrown in for contrast. At concerts and on recordings, you can expect gritty vocal harmonies backed by banjo, guitar, saw, and fiddle – and, when they're not feeling too grumpy about tech, bits of black metal, ambient, and noise music. wychwood.bandcamp.com
PANGISHIMO PARK is a new-ish gem of a lookout point between Chaudière/Akikodjiwan waterfall and the War Museum. (If the name's unfamiliar to you, Akikodjiwan is an important Algonquin Anishnaabe sacred site and there's a detailed history of it here: leveller.ca/2018/03/reconciliation-really). It's just off the Chaudière Bridge and next to the Zibi development.
TUNNELFEST was started in 2021 by Oddeline and Wychwood, and supported by members of Community Solidarity Ottawa as a way to safely play music and build community while taking advantage of the natural reverberation and shelter a tunnel provides. It's continued as conventional venues returned to normal because it's fun to play outside and make your own venue. It gets money from no one and is probably the only music fest in Ottawa that's completely unrelated to Bluesfest.
