Don Ross and Julie Malía, both well-established solo performers, have decided to form a new musical partnership. While continuing to play solo internationally, Don and Julie have been performing many of their shows as a double bill since the fall of 2023. Since then they have given over 100 concert performances in Germany, the UK, Canada, Italy, Austria and the USA. They are continuing the habit in 2026, touring together on both sides of the Atlantic.
The Spring of 2026 will see the release of Don's new all-vocal album, SONGS THAT FOUND ME, featuring songs that are important milestones in his life. A mixture of original songs and interpretations, his 19th solo album features not only Don's rich singing voice, but also his prowess as a multi-instrumentalist and as a recording engineer. Like his 2023 release, WATER, Don decided to launch a Kickstarter fundraising campaign and do the release 100% independently. He loves the freedom of artistic direction that crowdfunding affords, as well as the ability to collaborate on his recordings with artists like Bruce Cockburn and The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
Born and raised in Montreal, Don has lived in various parts of Canada over the course of his life. The son of a Mi’kmaw Indigenous mother and a Scottish immigrant father, he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music) degree from Toronto’s York University and started working full-time as a musician in 1988. That year he won the US National Fingerpick Guitar Championship for the first time. He was also the first person to win the competition twice (in 1996). Don has released solo CDs with a multitude of labels, including Duke Street Records, Sony Music/Columbia Records, Narada Records and CandyRat Records. He has also released collaborative CDs with Andy McKee, Calum Graham, Men of Steel, Dan Crary, and his jazz unit Don Ross Louder Than Usual. Over the course of his career, Don’s touring base has gone on to include trips to Australia, India, Russia, China, Japan, South Korea, and a dozen European countries.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Don went back to university, completing a Master of Arts degree in Orchestration through the University of Chichester (UK) and graduating in early 2021. He immediately started working extensively in the world of scoring orchestral and electronic music for video games, films and television. In 2021, Don won the prestigious Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts, administered by the Canada Council for the Arts. Don currently lives in Windsor, Nova Scotia, Canada.
