Joyce N’sana is a Canadian singer-songwriter originally from the Congo, whose work embodies what she refers to as “Afrobluehop,” a bold blend of blues, rock, hip hop, Afropop and a touch of reggae. Radio-Canada named her one of its Révélations, praising her “incredible intensity.” Her small stature belies the power of her voice, which carries a message of peace and strength.
Over the years, N’sana has racked up achievements and awards for her performances from Syli d’Or, MUZ, Landmark, Vue sur la Relève and La Voix. She was recognized as a 2021–2022 Radio-Canada Révélation and a nominee at the Gala Dynastie. She followed up her EP Obosso—hailed by Radio-Canada’s Jean-François Côté as “top-notch”—with her 2024 album Télama, whose title translates to “rise.” She recently performed it at Babel Music in France. Télama weaves tradition with modernity through the interplay of Kikongo, Lingala, French and English.
Joyce N’sana’s exquisitely arranged rhythms enchant audiences and get them grooving.
Her voice can range from soft and sweet to strong and powerful, resonating with traditional Kongo and Gospel rhythms. Her songs carry a message of peace, shaped by the trials and tribulations of growing up in the war-torn Congo. Her captivating, moving stage presence makes for concerts that are not just performances, but celebrations of life, culture and a never-ending search for balance. Get ready to be blown away by her “survivor’s fervor” (Stéphane Laporte, La Voix).
