AKEEM OH presents FEAR OF MISSING OUT at the National Arts Centre — the highly anticipated debut EP from the self-proclaimed soft.boi.indie.pop artist, premiering in the city where it all began. Writing from the edge of the moment, AKEEM OH creates music where romance meets reflection, vulnerability feels cinematic, and nostalgia hums beneath neon light.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in Mattawa, his identity is shaped by contrast. An African-American artist adopted by white and Indigenous French-Canadian parents, AKEEM OH brings a deeply personal lens to his work — exploring emotion, belonging, and duality with honesty and curiosity.
A true DIY musician, AKEEM OH writes, produces, and performs much of his music, blending the melodic sensibility of Paul McCartney with the modern indie-pop textures of HAIM, MGMT, and Beach House. His sound — shimmering, intimate, and confessional — feels like a late-night walk after a strange date.
Following early recognition from CBC, and growing support from AWAL and Sony Music Canada, AKEEM OH’s current era explores longing, romantic fantasy, and the tension of “almost.” Through recurring visuals like the balloon — a symbol of fleeting emotion and pressure — he builds immersive worlds that extend beyond the music.
A seasoned live performer, AKEEM OH has played hundreds of shows, including sold-out performances at the National Arts Centre, Club SAW, Horseshoe Tavern, and Bronson Centre (where he opened for Elijah Woods), as well as audiences of over 10,000 at Les Francos de Montréal. His energetic yet intimate performances have earned him recognition from Billboard Canada as a “hotly-tipped act.”
Every release, performance, and era AKEEM OH builds is intentional — immersive worlds that extend beyond the music. His FOMOTIONAL Mail project, which sends cryptic letters and handmade postcards to over 300 fans, reflects his belief that music should feel personal — something you can hold in your hands.
Ultimately, AKEEM OH makes music about connection — to memory, to feeling, and to the spaces between people, where vulnerability takes center stage.
